Mid to Late 14th Century Coat of Plates

Completed June 7, 2015

The COP has a cover layer of 3-4oz goat skin over 18oz hemp canvas. Please note that weight of leather is by the square foot and fabric is by the square yard. The plates are made from three different thicknesses of 17-7ph Stainless steel. The back plates except for the two bottom ones are 0.040"/19ga/1.0mm, the upper chest plate is 0.025"/24ga/0.6mm, and the rest of the plates are 0.035"/20ga/0.9mm. All of the plates have been fully annealed at 1950F/1066C before being heat treated to a TH1100 condition which has a hardness around Rc36 and a 2% yield strength of 150ksi/1034Mpa.
The holes in the plate pattern are designed for 12 guage copper roofing nails. I had the nails tin eletrode plates for corosion resistance.
The suit is sized for someone between who's height is 5'10"/178cm to 6'2'/188cm and who's weight is 220pounds/100Kg to 240pounds/109kg.

The COP has a cover layer of 3-4oz goat skin over 14oz hemp twill. Please note that weight of leather is by the square foot and fabric is by the square yard. The plates are made from 0.035"/20ga/0.9mm 1050 Spring Steel which was been heated to 1600F/871C and quenched in water, and tempered for 30 minutes at 650F/343C. The plates have been tinned at 650F/343C to prevent rust. From what I've seen the plates should resist denting as if they were 0.072"/15ga/1.8mm Mild Steel.
The holes in the plate pattern are designed for 10 gauge cut or 12 guage wire nails. I do NOT recommend using stainless steel nails. If you have to recover the armour they will be too difficult to remove.
The suit is sized for someone between who's height is 5'10"/178cm and who's weight is 200lbs./100Kg.
